Answers + Notes - Any Given Sunday + Queen Elizabeth

Notes Any Given Sunday -

I don't know what to say really.
Three minutes to the biggest battle of our professional lives
all comes down to today.
Either
we heal
as a team
or we are going to crumble.

Inch by inch
play by play till we're finished.
We are in hell right now, gentlemen
believe me
and
we can stay here
and get the shit kicked out of us
or
we can fight our way
back into the light.
We can climb out of hell.
One inch, at a time.

Now I can't do it for you.
I'm too old.
I look around and I see these young faces
and I think
I mean
I made every wrong choice a middle age man could make.
I uh....
I pissed away all my money
believe it or not.
I chased off anyone who has ever loved me.
And lately, I can't even stand the face I see in the mirror.

You know when you get old in life things get taken from you.
That's, that's part of life.
But, you only learn that when you start losing stuff.
You find out that life is just a game of inches.
So is football.
Because in either game life or football
the margin for error is so small.
I mean, one half step too late or to early
you don't quite make it.
One half second too slow or too fast
and you don't quite catch it.
The inches we need are everywhere around us.
They are in ever break of the game
every minute, every second.

On this team, we fight for that inch.
On this team, we tear ourselves, and everyone around us
to pieces for that inch.
We CLAW with our fingernails for that inch.

Cause we know,
when we add up all those inches
that's going to make the fucking difference
between WINNING and LOSING
between LIVING and DYING.

I'll tell you this
in any fight
it is the guy who is willing to die
who is going to win that inch.
And I know if I am going to have any life anymore
it is because, I am still willing to fight, and die for that inch
because that is what LIVING is.
The six inches in front of your face.

Now I can't make you do it.
You gotta look at the guy next to you.
Look into his eyes.
Now I think you are going to see a guy who will go that inch with you.
You are going to see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team
because he knows when it comes down to it,
you are gonna do the same thing for him.

That's a team, gentlemen
and either we heal now, as a team,
or we will die as individuals.
That's football guys.
That's all it is.
Now, whattaya gonna do?

Queen Elizabeth Speech -

My loving people,
We have been persuaded by some that are careful of our safety, to take heed how we commit our selves to armed multitudes, for fear of treachery; FEAR OF A TRAITOR KILLING HER but I assure you I do not desire to live to distrust my faithful and loving people. THEY SHOULDN'T SURRENDER Let tyrants fear, I have always so behaved myself that, under God, I have placed my chiefest strength and safeguard in the loyal hearts and good-will of my subjects; TRUST and therefore I am come amongst you, as you see, at this time, not for my recreation and disport, but being resolved, in the midst and heat of the battle, to live and die amongst you all; to lay down for my God, and for my kingdom, and my people, my honour and my blood, even in the dust. PHYSICAL PRESENCE SHOWS HER SUPPORT AND COMMITMENT TO CAUSE I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king, PHYSICALLY WEAK MENTALLY AND INTERNALLY STRONG AND COMMITTED. HONOUR IS POWERFUL and of a king of England too, and think foul scorn that Parma or Spain, or any prince of Europe, should dare to invade the borders of my realm; to which rather than any dishonour shall grow by me, I myself will take up arms, I myself will be your general, judge, and rewarder of every one of your virtues in the field. I know already, for your forwardness you have deserved rewards and crowns; and We do assure you in the word of a prince, they shall be duly paid you. In the mean time, my lieutenant general2 shall be in my stead, than whom never prince commanded a more noble or worthy subject; not doubting but by your obedience to my general, by your concord in the camp, and your valour in the field, we shall shortly have a famous victory over those enemies of my God, of my kingdom, and of my people.
Any given Sunday -

1. He demeans himself by saying ''I made every wrong choice a middle age man could make, I uh.. pissed away all my money believe it or not. I chased off anyone who has ever loved me and lately I can't even stand to see my face in the mirror.''

2. He his giving them a sense of his experience of what he has done and what not to do with your life. He has made it personal by telling the team about his life which draws them more into his speech. By being more honest he makes his speech much more meaningful and powerful and this fires up the whole team.

Queen Elizabeth -

1. Queen Elizabeth states ''I know I have the body of a weak and feeble old women but I have the heart and stomach of a king and a king of England too.''

2. She has portrayed herself as a weak, feeble and old women to show she is not perfect as she tells the truth. She is trying to pump up the troops and prepare them for the great battle that lays before them. She has made the speech personal by talking about herself and this is done to inspire the troops.
