2009 Napalm Writing

I was sitting in class and there was five minutes left of the period. It was the last day of school and then holidays for five weeks. I turned to Toby and asked him what he was doing in the holidays. He replied ''I'm not going away or anything big ill probably just stick around and go to the movies.'' I thought to myself this is great maybe we can go away somewhere on a new adventure. The bell rang for lunch and everyone scrambled out the door in a hurry to get to their locker. I was walking through the corridor and say Jimmy up ahead. I shouted out and ran towards him. We spoke on the way to our lockers and it turned out he wasn't doing anything either. We walked outside and spoke to Tim. He was only going away for the first week.

The next couple periods went fast. When the bell rang for the end of school everyone rushed to their lockers to get their bags and head out. When I was at home I asked my mum if me Jimmy, Toby and Tim could all go up north and camp for a couple of nights.  My mum had no problem with it but I needed to ring up the others. Half an hour I had rung everyone and asked them if they wanted to come. They all said yes and packed their bags for tomorrow.

The next day came full of joy and excitement where we got dropped off at Mt Horn with our packs and rations. As we all so my mums black land rover go into the distance we thought to ourselves this was going to be the best couple days of our lives. So we set off to find a decent spot to set up camp. We had a while as it was only midday. 

As we were walking Tim asked me ''Do you know where we are going.'' I retorted ''Well if we keep heading west there is a good campsite there as I have been there before with my Dad.'' So we kept walking and after an hour we started to get dehydrated and hungry and it was probably time to get out of the blazing hot sunny. We all sat down under a shady tree and got out todays lunch. We got some bread rolls together and made some sandwiches. After 10 minutes everyone had scoffed down their sandwiches and guzzled down at least half a litre of water and we set off again for our great adventure. 

Hours later we all got sick of hiking and needed a place to set up camp and is was going to get dark in the next hour or two. I looked down the 20 meter cliff and saw a nice open area where we could set up tents. All we needed was a way to get down. Toby exclaimed ''There looks like there is a path a 30 meters ahead. So we rushed over and had a look. It was a bit risky and if anyone slipped they would get seriously injured but we thought we'd give it a go. We slowly shuffled down and had nearly reached the bottom when suddenly a black snake popped out hissing at us as if to say back away. We all got extremely frightened and backed away slowly. Tim reached for a stick and then suddenly smashed it onto the snakes head. We all couldn't believe it at first and then thanked him for just saving our lives.

We reached the bottom and there was a great big open area with trees surrounding us. There was also a little lake and rock structure next to it where we could jump into the lake. We put our stuff down and set up tents. When that was done we gathered sticks and made a mini bonfire. I said to everyone ''Well I didn't expect us to end up down here but thanks for all coming.'' Jimmy said ''This is the best place I've ever camped at. Let's make a deal we come here next holidays as well.''

We were all so happy to find a place good it was our greatest discovery yet.
